The Legacy at North Augusta is guided by a Board of Directors who are leaders in business and the community around the Staunton, Va., area. They are all volunteers, donating their time and expertise because they believe in our not-for-profit mission for senior living: Putting residents first.
Meet our Board:

Chair
Dr. Mosher is Director of the Health Care Administration Program at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Va. as well as Professor of Health Care Administration and Political Science. He teaches courses in a variety of Health Care Administration and Political Science areas that include Health Care Strategic Management, Economics and Finance of Health Care, Long Term Care Administration, Global Health Care and Managed Care.
His research interests have been in Role and Use of Organizational Audits, Future of Health Care Systems; Long Term Care and the Quality of Life, Ethics in Health Care; and Global Health Care Issues. Dr. Mosher has also contributed his time as a lecturer and presenter at various colleges and conferences.
Dr. Mosher attended the University of South Carolina where he earned his Ph.D. in Government and International Studies; M.A. in International Studies; and B.A. in Political Science (cum laude).

Immediate Past Chair
Reverend Rodney L. Ronneberg, STS – was the chairman of the board for The Legacy at North Augusta, and is a semi-retired Lutheran clergyman residing in Staunton, Virginia. He currently serves as Pastor to Faith Lutheran Church in Staunton, Virginia and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Churchville, Virginia, in a part-time capacity. He has served Lutheran congregations in Pennsylvania and Colorado, and was Senior Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulton, Maryland for 25 years.
Ronneberg has been part of the ministry of the National Lutheran Communities & Services for over 18 years, having served on the Board of The Village at Rockville as secretary. He became a member of the Board for The Legacy in 2016. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and a master’s degree in divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He has completed additional post-graduate studies in worship and theology at Gettysburg Seminary and in ecumenical studies at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver; and, for 26 years, the Institute of Liturgical Studies at Valparaiso University.
Ronneberg is the author of “A Little Book of Canons,” a book of Eucharistic prayers, first published in 1997; and published again in 2011 by the American Lutheran Publicity Bureau (ALPB Books). He is a member of the Society of the Holy Trinity (STS), and was the founding Dean of its Chesapeake-Potomac Chapter. He is married to Prudence Hunter Ronneberg. They have three grown children and three grandchildren. Pastor Rod was, at one time, a long-distance runner, but now enjoys as much bicycling as he can.

Vice Chair
Dr. Shirley Travis received an associate degree in nursing from Dekalb College, a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in nursing from Georgia State University, and a doctorate’s in family studies/adult development and aging from Virginia Tech. During her career, she held clinical, educational, and administrative positions including endowed professorships at the University of Oklahoma and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. During her clinical years, she maintained a faculty practice as a licensed Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist.
She is a recipient of the Janssen Eldercare Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to the health care of older Americans, Academic Gerontologist of the Year Award from the Southern Gerontological Society for her record of applied research in long-term care, and the Springer Geriatric/ Gerontological Nursing Research Award for her end of life research. Dr. Travis is a past president of the National Gerontological Nursing Association and a former chair of the Clinical Medicine Section (now Health Sciences Section) of the Gerontological Society of America.
Notable past community service activities for Dr. Travis include appointments to the INOVA Health System, Health Care Services Board of Trustees in Fairfax, Virginia and multiple terms on the National Omnicare Clinical Pharmacotherapeutics Advisory Board. From 2001 to 2004, Dr. Travis was an Eminent Scholar of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving and served on the Institute Board of Directors from 2004 to 2008.
Dr. Travis’ last professional position was founding dean of the College of Health and Human Services at George Mason University. She retired in 2014 and now happily resides on a hilltop in Churchville, Virginia with her husband, Dr. William J. (Jim) McAuley and two standard poodles.

Secretary-Treasurer
5Mrs. Harris joined the board of The Legacy at North Augusta in 2019. She is a Registered Professional Nurse with over 45 years of experience in health care with a focus on mental health and treatment. After retiring with 30 years of service in the Virginia health care system, she worked as a nurse educator in the public school and college system for 15 years. Currently, she is working to provide treatment to those affected by opioid addiction.
Mrs. Harris has served on the board of the Augusta Heart Association and has volunteered at the Augusta Free Clinic and with the local American Red Cross. She was born and raised in Staunton, Virginia and continues to live in the area with her husband, the Rev. Jim Harris. She received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Virginia and her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Virginia with a focus on psychiatric/mental health nursing.

President & CEO, National Lutheran Communities & Services
Larry Bradshaw joined National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) in October of 2009 as President & CEO. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit senior living industry. From 1987-2006, he was Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President for Strategic Growth with Asbury Communities, a not-for-profit, multi-site, senior living organization. In 2006, Larry took on the role of President for Asbury’s for-profit company, The Asbury Group, offering consulting services to other Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs). Larry was also the principal of Bradshaw Insights Group, providing consulting services to CCRCs in everything from strategic planning and board development to financial analysis and capital structure development.
As the President & CEO at NLCS, Larry’s focus is strategically growing and furthering the organization’s 126-year mission and ministry of providing lifestyle, residential and health care options for seniors. He leads a team of dedicated professionals whose collective goal is to meet the ever-changing needs of seniors, while providing excellent care and innovative services that preserve seniors’ independence and dignity. Under his leadership, NLCS has become a multi-site organization offering a wide range of services including home health care and community clinics.
Larry is an active member of LeadingAge and LeadingAge Maryland, has served as a CCAC (now CARF) Commissioner, and as Chair of CCAC’s Financial Advisory Panel. He is a frequent presenter at numerous national meetings, including LeadingAge, the National Investment Conference, and Ziegler’s Senior Living CFO Workshop.
Larry has a B.S. in Accounting from Emporia State University and an M.B.A. in Technology Management from The University of Phoenix.
