There comes a time in your life when you meet that person that touches you forever. For many of us at The Legacy at North Augusta, that was long time resident, Demmie Layne. Her endearing personality kept everyone in stitches and made a dreary day full of sunshine. Cheese puffs, Pepsi and peanut butter cups were her what kept her going! Demmie was born in Princeton, West Virginia, and later moved to Waynesboro. She had a 30-year career with General Electric in the marketing department.
We were all so heartbroken when Demmie passed in the spring of 2020. The team members of the Legacy of North Augusta are launching an Employee Giving Campaign. There are two funds that employees chose to donate to: Benevolent Care and the Remember Me Capital Campaign that supports our new Memory Care Neighborhood. As the team learned more about the employee campaign naming opportunities for rooms in the new memory care neighborhood, they decided that they would like to raise $15,000 as a team to name the hallway “Demmie Layne.” They wanted to honor Demmie and have a little reminder of her on the wall. They are well on their way to making their goal with additional gifts that have been received from Demmie’s family.
This is the first time the Legacy has held a formal Employee Giving Campaign. There was a soft launch for the Leadership team and all team members will have the opportunity to participate in the summer of 2021. It is amazing when a team comes together to honor one of their friends!
